Sneh Rana during the 2023 WPL

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have signed off-spinning all-rounder Sneh Rana as replacement for Shreyanka Patil, who has been ruled out of the 2025 WPL with an injury.

Rana captained Gujarat Giants when Beth Mooney was injured during the first season of the WPL in 2023. She played eight matches in that season, taking six wickets and was retained by the side for the following edition. However, she went unsold at the auction last December in a surprise pass-over. However, she will now represent RCB, who have signed her for 30 lakh.

Rana's call-up comes off the back of a successful domestic season. She led India C in the senior women's one-day Challenger Trophy last month, and took nine wickets across five matches in the tournament. Although Rana has featured in 52 white-ball matches for India, she has not represented her country in either ODIs or T20Is since 2023. She has, however, featured in India's Test side, and took a 10-wicket-haul against South Africa last year. Her 8-77 in South Africa's first innings was the second-best figures for an India bowler in a women's Test of all time, only second to Neetu David's 8-53.

Shreyanka was unavailable for RCB's tournament opener against Gujarat Giants, in which they chased down 202 to win the game with nine balls to spare. It was subsequently confirmed that she had been ruled-out of the tournament, although the details of her injury remain unknown.

The WPL got off to a thrilling start after RCB's record chase in the first match. Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians in the second game after run-out controversy dominated the final three overs. UP Warriorz will get their tournament underway tomorrow (February 16), with RCB set to play again on Monday, when they will face Delhi.
