Former New Zealand international Katey Martin puts down catch on WBBL boundary

Watch: Former New Zealand international cricketer turned commentator Katey Martin put down a catch on the sidelines of the WBBL Melbourne derby today (November 15).

Martin played 199 international matches for the White Ferns before retiring in 2022. She has since gone on to forge a successful career as a pundit, and is currently working on the coverage of the ongoing WBBL.

During today's match in Melbourne, Martin was stationed by the advertising boards over the boundary rope while off air when the ball suddenly came her way. Bowling the penultimate over of the Renegades' innings, Annabel Sutherland sent Georgia Prestwidge down a leg side delivery, which she promptly hoicked high over square leg.

The ball was destined to go for six from the moment it left the bat, with the fielder on the rope only able to watch it go over her head. However, as it sailed over the rope, Martin sprang into action. She ran in from the advertising boards, towards the ball as it dropped down several metres over the rope. She was positioned perfectly to take the catch as it came straight towards her, but she inexplicably let it through her hands.

With all the cameras on her after the mishap, Martin buried her face in her hands as she sat back in her chair. On replay, the ball was shown to brush Martin's fingers before bursting through her hands, drawing a shocked look from Martin.

Prestwidge followed up that six with a four behind square on the off side before completing the over with another boundary.
