Watch: In a WBBL match at the Bellerive Oval, Ellyse Perry survived because the Hobart Hurricanes fielders did not appeal.
Sydney Sixers amassed 155-7 at Hobart after home captain Elyse Villani won the toss and opted to field. Sixers captain Perry did the bulk of the scoring, with a 62-ball 86 that included 11 fours and two sixes. Ash Gardner (21 in 16 balls) and Hollie Armitage (30 in 25) were the only others to reach double figures. For the home team, Chloe Tryon claimed 2-30 and Nicola Carey 2-27.
There was an moment of note in the final over of the innings. Heather Graham bowled the third ball just outside the off-stump, and Mathilda Carmichael played it towards short-third. Perry called and ran for a quick single.
Perry seemed to have given up towards the end of the single, making no attempt to dive or even fully stretch into the crease. Replays revealed that she was short of the crease when wicketkeeper Lizelle Lee whipped the bails off.
However, none of the Hurricanes fielders appealed, not even Lee – though, to be fair, Perry was behind her when she removed the bails. Perry hit the next ball for four but fell off the last ball of the innings. Six runs were added in the interim period.
The Sixers then went on to win the match by six runs. They restricted the Hurricanes to 149-9 as Lauren Cheatle (2-32), Sophie Ecclestone (2-22), and Caoimhe Bray (2-13) shared six wickets. For Hobart, Danni Wyatt-Hodge top-scored with a 26-ball 30.
