The second Test between West Indies and South Africa at Providence Stadium in Guyana looks evenly poised after the opening day. However, rain could interrupt the fixture on day two – here are the full forecast details for WI vs SA 2024 2nd Test Day 2.

Seventeen wickets fell on a spicy pitch in Guyana. Shamar Joseph started the bowling onslaught by picking up a five-wicket haul on his home Test debut. South Africa were teetering at 97-9 at one stage, having decided to bat first but a lower-order resistance from Dane Piedt (38*) and Nandre Burger (23) gave the visitors something to fight for, as they ended their innings on 160.

The lively wicket was always going to be difficult for batters, and it was no different for West Indies, who were reduced to 97-7 at the close of play on day one. Wiaan Mulder (4-18) led South Africa’s comeback, with Nandre Burger (2-32) and Keshav Maharaj (1-6) joining the party.

After rain forced a rare draw in the first Test, the forecast for the second day of the second Test, though slightly better than day one, isn’t entirely promising.
