South Africa look well on top ahead of day four of the first Test between West Indies and South Africa at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. However, rain has interrupted the fixture already, with the start of play delayed – here are the full forecast details for WI vs SA 2024 1st Test day four.
After rain allowed only 15 overs of play on the opening day, South Africa ensured their decision to bat first paid off. With Aiden Markram (9 off 34) being the only wicket to fall, the visitors resumed day two on their overnight score of 45-1. Temba Bavuma, returning to lead the side, starred with an 182-ball 86. Bavuma was well-supported by Tony de Zorzi, who scored 78 off 145 balls while opening the batting.
South Africa only added seven runs to their total on day three, and were bowled out for 357. With play stopping and starting throughout the day with rain, the West Indies reached 145-7 by the close, Keacy Carty making the most notable contribution on Test debut with 42.
The start of day four was also delayed by rain, and the weather was poor enough for only 30 overs of play to be possible. That was, however, still enough for South Africa to take the six remaining West Indies wickets before reaching 30-0 in five overs to register an overall lead of 154 runs.
Ricky Ponting has ruled himself out of accepting the position of England’s white-ball head coach, left vacant by the departure of Matthew Mott.

WI vs SA 2024 1st Test Day 5: What is the rain forecast during the game?
BBC Weather paints a bleak picture for the chances of play on day four, with thunderstorms set to interrupt the day. The chances of rain hover between 35-40% from 11am to 2pm, so even if play starts on time it could well be interrupted quickly.
AccuWeather also forecasts a gloomy picture, even worse than BBC Weather. It predicts the highest chances of thunderstorms around 10am local time, and chances of rain at about 50% from 10am to 3pm.
Weather.com puts the chance of precipitation in Port of Spain at midday at 74%, with chances varying from 60-65% just before and after that as well. There is perhaps a slight chance that play could be possible towards the end of the day, if the pitch has time to dry out.
