Jafer Chohan, the leg-spinner yet to play a T20 Blast or Hundred game called up by England, in action for Yorkshire

England have named a 14-member squad for their white-ball series against the West Indies which starts later this month, with the group including three uncapped players.

Jos Buttler will return to captain the side after injury kept him out of England's last white-ball action of the home summer against Australia. He will lead a squad which includes three uncapped players in John Turner, Dan Mousley and 22-year-old leg-spinner Jafer Chohan, who has been called up to an England squad for the first time. Mousley was part of England's T20I squad this summer but did not play a game, while Turner was also a non-playing member of both white-ball squads against Australia, and was part of England's squad that toured the Caribbean last year.

Only 14 players have been named for the series, which will consist of three ODIs and five T20Is, and the squad is shorn of multi-format players who are involved in England's Test series against Pakistan this month. However, two players from the squad facing Pakistan will be added to the group after the selection is confirmed for the third Test of the series in Rawalpindi, bringing the squad numbers up to 16.

England white-ball squad vs West Indies: Jos Buttler (c), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Jafer Chohan, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, John Turner.

Chohan is the most surprising name in the squad. At 22 years old, he is the first graduate of the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) to be selected in a senior England squad. He signed his first professional contract for Yorkshire last year, after impressing as a net bowler against England ahead of their tour to Pakistan in 2022. He dismissed Joe Root and Ben Duckett in the practice for that series. Since then, he has played 23 T20Is, but has yet to make his List A debut or Hundred debut. He was injured this summer, limiting his appearances to just the T20 Blast, but was not named in a Hundred squad even before being injured.

Of the players likely to join the squad from the Test group facing Pakistan, it's unlikely that any who will feature in the XI in Rawalpindi will then make the trip to the Caribbean. The third Test is due to run from October 24 to 28, with the first ODI in the Caribbean taking place on October 31. Equally, England start another Test series against New Zealand 10 days after the final T20I against the West Indies. That likely rules out Harry Brook, Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett, as well as Ben Stokes and Joe Root.

England will begin their series against the West Indies in Antigua for the first two ODIs, before travelling to Barbados for the third and first two T20Is. The final three T20Is will be played in St Lucia.
