Bangladesh’s win against West Indies in Kingston was their first in the Caribbean in 15 years

Bangladesh’s momentous win over West Indies in Kingston helped them to level the two-match Test series - Here are the updated WTC standings after the historic result.

Veteran spinner Taijul Islam’s 5-50 in Kingston helped the tourists clinch their first Test win in the Caribbean in 15 years. The hosts were set a target of 287 with more than five sessions remaining. Taijul’s brilliance helped skittle them for 185 in less than two sessions.

The win was first set up by a historic five-wicket haul from their quickest-ever pacer Nahid Rana. His 5-61 were the seventh-best figures in the fast bowling history of Bangladesh, a country not known for having a rich pace bowling legacy. Despite being bowled out for 164, Nahid's performance helped the visiting side bowl out West Indies for 146 in the first innings.

Updated WTC points table: Bottom-ranked West Indies and Bangladesh exchange places

Both West Indies and Bangladesh are out of contention for reaching the 2023-25 WTC final and are teetering at the bottom of the table. The historic victory gave Bangladesh a slight points percentage boost of 6.25, taking them to 31.25. As a result, they gained a place, replacing West Indies as the second-last team on the table.

Yesterday (December 3), England and New Zealand were docked three points each for a slow over-rate offence during the Christchurch Test. While England are already out of the race for the final, the penalty has hampered New Zealand’s faint hopes of making it to the summit clash.
