West Indies won the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh 3-0. Here's what their clean-sweep has done to the ICC Men's ODI team rankings.
In the series opener on Sunday (December 8), Sherfane Rutherford’s maiden ODI century helped West Indies break their 11-match losing streak against Bangladesh. The hosts gunned down 295, riding on Rutherford’s 80-ball 113. In the process, Rutherford took his ODI tally to 443 runs, the most by a West Indies cricketer in his first eight innings.
Jayden Seales starred with the ball in the second match, finishing with 4-22 off his nine overs to skittle out the tourists to 227 in 45.5 overs. West Indies got over the line quite comfortably with seven wickets and 13.1 overs remaining.
For the dead rubber, the home side had a hero in debutant Amir Jangoo, whose selection to the squad was a surprise. However, Jangoo put any doubts to rest with an unbeaten 104 off 83 helping West Indies overpower Bangladesh’s 321-5. Jangoo became the 18th batter in men’s ODIs and the second West Indies cricketer after Desmond Haynes to score a hundred on debut.
He walked in at 86-4 and smashed six fours and four sixes en route to his unbeaten knock powering the hosts home to a series whitewash with four wickets and 25 balls left. The southpaw batter became the first to score an ODI hundred on debut while batting outside the top four.
