Against Bangladesh at Basseterre, Amir Jangoo became the 26th batter across genders to score a hundred on ODI debut.
With a List A strike rate of 70, Jangoo was a surprise selection in the West Indies ODI squad against Bangladesh. However, he put all doubts to rest on his debut, in the dead-rubber third ODI of the three-match series.
Jangoo came to bat at 86-4 after Bangladesh had posted 321-5. He added 132 with Keacy Carty (95) to keep the chase on track, brought up his hundred in 79 balls, and eventually finished on 104 not out in 83 balls with six fours and four sixes. The hosts won with 25 balls and four wickets in hand.
Jangoo became the second West Indian, after Desmond Haynes, to score a hundred on ODI debut. Overall, he became the 26th cricketer (and 18th man) to do so, but the first to score an ODI hundred on debut while batting outside the top four.
