After an entertaining ODI series, which ended 1-1, both teams would be hoping to get the better of the other in the shortest format. South Africa and the West Indies did not enjoy great campaigns at the T20 World Cup in Australia last year too.
While the Proteas endured heartbreak at the hands of Netherlands, the West Indies failed to make it to the Super 12 stage. Thus, both teams would want to start building towards the next T20 World Cup and hope that they perform better.
Temba Bavuma has been replaced as T20I skipper by Aiden Markram. Quinton de Kock, as always, will be expected to play a key role for the Proteas, with David Miller also looking to make an impact. Heinrich Klaasen, who smashed a belligerent ton in the third ODI against the West Indies, could slot into the middle order, alongside the likes of Rilee Rossouw and Tristan Stubbs.
West Indies, on the other hand, will be led by Rovman Powell. Former skipper Nicholas Pooran is also part of the squad, and the pair will be expected to do the bulk of the heavy lifting in the middle order. Brandon King and vice-captain Kyle Mayers add further firepower to the batting unit.
On the bowling front, Alzarri Joseph could hold the key, alongside Jason Holder, Obed McCoy and Sheldon Cottrell. Yannic Cariah, who was a surprise inclusion at the T20 World Cup, has also been retained, with Akeal Hosein being the other specialist spinner in the side.
The first T20I is slated to take place on March 25. The second and third game is on March 26 and March 28, respectively.
