South Africa, who recently thumped the West Indies 2-0 in the Test series, will be hoping to keep their momentum going in the fifty-over format. These ODIs are not a part of the ODI World Cup Super League, although they offer South Africa a chance to figure out what their best XI is ahead of the crunch ODI series against Netherlands. That series could decide if they gain automatic qualification for the ODI World Cup later this year.
Temba Bavuma will lead the side which also contains Quinton de Kock. Aiden Markram is also expected to play a key role, alongside David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen. Heinrich Klaasen, Marco Jansen, Markram and Miller, however, will only be available for the third and final match.
West Indies, on the other hand, will be led by Shai Hope, who takes over from Nicholas Pooran. The latter is still a part of the squad however. Rovman Powell has been appointed as the vice-captain and will be a vital cog in the middle order which also comprises of Brandon King, Roston Chase and Shamarh Brooks.
The first and second ODI will be played in East London on March 16 and 18, respectively. The caravan then moves to Potchefstroom, with the third ODI set to take place on March 21.
