Watch: Shaheen Afridi was on fire with the new ball again in the second ODI against West Indies, cramping Shai Hope for room before plucking out the batter on the last delivery of his first over.
The winner of the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2021, Shaheen was at his lethal best against Windies on Friday, ending with figures of 4-1-17-1, with the wicket coming in the very first over of the innings.
The quick started with an inswinging ball to Hope around the middle and leg stump, which was sent away for no run to mid-wicket. The next delivery was fuller in length bang in front of the middle stump, which again fetched no runs. Though Hope sent the third ball of the over for a four towards square leg, Shaheen bounced back strongly, with two dots followed by the wicket of the opener.
After bowling a shorter delivery around middle and leg, Shaheen sent down a faster ball in the same spot once again, as Hope barely survived, bringing his bat down just in time. He was unable to survive the next ball, though, as the Pakistan bowler tempted him to lean forward by bowling a full-length ball outside the off stump. Hope reached for it but ended up chipping straight to Fakhar Zaman at short cover, departing for a six-ball four.
Chasing 276 for a win to stay alive in the ODI series, West Indies were all out for 155.
