Watch: Pakistan fielders Mohammad Hasnain and Iftikhar Ahmed were involved in an amusing mix-up under a skier, bringing back memories of a similar incident involving Shoaib Malik and Saeed Ajmal from 2008.
During the eighth over of West Indies’ innings in the third T20I against Pakistan in Karachi, Shamarh Brooks came down the track to Nawaz and struck him aerially to the long-on region. The ball got the elevation but not the distance, losing height as it approached the boundary where two Pakistan fielders converged.
Hasnain, running to his right, appeared to call for the catch, but Iftikhar, too, closed in, probably not hearing his teammates’ call. As the ball hurtled towards them, Hasnain got into position to grab it, but pulled away at the last moment on seeing how close he was to Iftikhar. Iftikhar, though, didn’t go for the catch either, watching as the ball dropped between the two. An animated exchange ensued, even as West Indies’ batters quickly exchanged ends.
The mix-up was similar to another incident of the same kind in a game against West Indies in an ODI in 2008, when Shoaib Malik and Saeed Ajmal both got under an aerial shot from Chris Gayle. Ajmal attempted to take the catch but pulled out at the last moment, animatedly gesturing at Malik as the ball dropped between the two.
