Zak Crawley representing England

England opener Zak Crawley may be absent for the fourth innings of the Edgbaston Test match against West Indies, after he suffered a finger injury while fielding.

In the 38th over of West Indies' batting innings, Jason Holder went hard at a back of length delivery from English skipper Ben Stokes, getting a thick edge. The ball flew quickly, and above Crawley's right shoulder. He went at the catch with two hands but only managed to deflect it instead of holding on. He left the field for treatment immediately, and did not return for a while.

Will Crawley bat in the fourth innings?

An official statement from England later read, "Opener Zak Crawley has left the venue for a scan after receiving a blow to his right index finger while attempting a catch in the first session of the day," making the opener a doubt when the hosts come out to bat in the fourth innings.

Crawley had scored 18 in England's first innings total of 376 of this Test after registering scores of 0 & 3 at Trent Bridge, and 76 at Lord's.

West Indies began day three at 33-2 in 14 overs. By lunch, they had managed to advance the score to 151, losing three wickets in the process to lead by 57 runs. After lunch, England were able to prise out another two batters, Joshua da Silva and Alzarri Joseph.

At the time of writing, the visitors were 168-7 during the second session of the day, leading by 74 runs. The match is heading towards an early finish, and England will be eyeing a series whitewash after winning the first match by an innings and 114 runs, and the second Test by 241 runs.
