Watch: In a rapid spell, Mark Wood bowled a 97mph bouncer to Mikyle Louis during the second day of the Trent Bridge Test between England and West Indies.
Wood, coming in place of the retired James Anderson, bowled a lightning spell at the start of the day’s play. He broke his own record for the fastest over bowled by an England player on home soil in the ball-tracking era – twice. Wood's average speed in his first over was a record 94.7mph.
He bettered it by clocking 95 mph in his third over. The highlight was the penultimate ball, also the quickest of the lot.
The ball was short of length and whizzed past batter Mikyle Louis, who did well to get out of the way in time without any visible uneasiness. The Trent Bridge big screen showed that Wood was clocked at 97.1 mph for that delivery, resulting in cheers and accolades for the tearaway quick.
