Mark Wood limped off the field towards the end of Day Two of England's Test match against the West Indies at Trent Bridge, seeming to be suffering discomfort in his left hamstring.

Wood left the field with half an hour left of the day's play. Having bowled the first ball of his 15th over, Wood stretched out his leg at the top of his mark, with Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes joining him. After talking it through with the captain and senior bowling colleague, Wood decided to leave the field and receive treatment. Gus Atkinson took over to bowl the remaining five balls of Wood's over.

While the injury didn't look to be serious, England will take no risks with Wood, who has a significant history of injuries. He was left out of the squad for the first Test of the series as he regained red-ball readiness following the T20 World Cup. If the injury is worse than it first appeared, however, it will be bad news for England. The West Indies batted out the day and closed in to within 100 of England's first innings score by the end of play. Kavem Hodge scored his first Test century and frustrated England throughout the afternoon.

While he went wicketles, Wood was the pick of England's bowlers. His first spell was rapid, clocking 93mph with his first delivery and hitting 97.1mph in his third over. He twice broke his own record for the fastest-ever sent down by an England player on home soil since bowling speeds have first been recorded.

Wood looked England's most threatening bowler and found some movement late in the day. He had Hodge dropped by Joe Root at first slip in the afternoon session, which should have been his first wicket. Woakes, Stokes, Atkinson and Shoaib Bashir shared the West Indies wickets to fall between them.
