In a hair-raising spell at Trent Bridge, Mark Wood twice broke his own record for the fastest over bowled by an England player on home soil in the ball-tracking era.

With his first over into the attack on the morning of day two of the second Test match of the series against the West Indies, Wood bowled with searing pace. He started at 93.9mph and stayed there, with that first ball his second-slowest of the over, and hitting a top speed of 96.5mph. Sky then revealed it was the fastest over bowled by an England bowler at home since such data was recorded, dating back to 2006, with an average speed of 94.7mph.

The following over Wood sent down didn't feature a ball at less than 94mph, with his fastest delivery at 95.1. Sky then displayed Wood as having hit 97mph in his third over, with England's official social media account revealing that his third over was even quicker than his first, setting another record.

What's even more remarkable is that the record Wood broke was his own, in an over agaisnt New Zealand at Lord's in 2021's two-Test series.

Wood's spell was kept to four overs, going wicketless and conceding 11 runs. He did see a wicket fall from the other end, with Mikyle Louis holing out off the bowling of Shoaib Bashir, giving the off-spinner his maiden Test wicket.
