England march on after Gus Atkinson’s 7-45 on Test debut

England emphatically began their home Test summer, courtesy of debutant Gus Atkinson’s seven-wicket haul on day one of the Lord’s Test against the West Indies. The match is filled with tributes to James Anderson, who is playing his farewell match, but Atkinson rose to the occasion and picked up 7-45 to skittle the tourists to 121. Atkinson recorded the second-best Test figures by a debutant in an England shirt.

In reply, Zak Crawley (76 off 89), Ollie Pope (57 off 74), Harry Brook (50 off 64), and Joe Root (68 off 114) all chipped in for the hosts to give England a 172-run lead at lunch.

James Coles stars in Sussex's win over Hampshire in T20 Blast

An all-round show from James Coles helped Sussex beat Hampshire to strengthen their chances of making it to the quarter-finals of the T20 Blast.

Coles top-scored with a 33-ball 46 as the Sharks racked up 200-7. Defending the target, he returned with a career-best 4-34 with his left-arm spin to bowl out Hampshire for 178 runs.

With seven wins from 10 matches, Sussex solidified their second position in the South Group behind table-toppers Surrey, while Hampshire are reeling at seventh with just two wins and will need to win the remaining games to stay in the hunt.

Gary Kirsten accuses Shaheen Afridi of misconduct – reports

After Pakistan’s disastrous T20 World Cup campaign, Shaheen Afridi has been accused of misbehaving with the coaching staff, claimed a Geo News report, citing sources. The report also says that a probe is underway to find out why the management didn’t take any action against the left-arm pacer for his misdemeanour.

Hindustan Times cited multiple media reports in Pakistan, reporting that head coach Gary Kirsten accused Afridi of misbehaving with coaches and backroom staff.

Pakistan cricket is facing turmoil after their T20 World Cup debacle as Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were removed from the national selection committee. The Pakistan Cricket Board has also sacked team manager Mansoor Rana, claimed the Geo News report.

Shahid Afridi: Babar Azam has got enough opportunities

Shahid Afridi has criticised Pakistan white-ball captain Babar Azam after their poor performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup, saying the management needs to take a call on Babar's future in that role.

"Babar has got a full open chance to lead Pakistan. He has been given enough time to show his worth as captain. Now whatever surgery the PCB wants to do, they should take their decision," Afridi, who is part of the World Legends Championship, said,

He added: "I have also captained Pakistan and so have Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq but whenever the team has performed badly in the World Cups, first thing the captain faces the knife (sic)."

Gautam Gambhir reportedly in talks with Ryan ten Doeschate

According to a Cricbuzz report, Gautam Gambhir, newly appointed as India’s head coach, has approached Ryan ten Doeschate to be a part of his support staff. Doeschate was one of Gambhir’s assistants during the Kolkata Knight Riders’ 2024 IPL trophy win. He was the fielding coach of the side and is a part of the sister franchises in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Major League Cricket (MLC).

The report suggests discussions are currently underway and the BCCI want to retain T Dilip as India's fielding coach, meaning the former Dutch international might be brought in as an assistant coach. Notably, Abhishek Nayar, another member of Gambhir's backroom staff in KKR, is considered for the role.

Rohit Sharma reportedly offered to give up T20 World Cup bonus

Several media reports earlier claimed that former India head coach Rahul Dravid refused INR 5 crore from a pool of prize money worth INR 125 core announced by the BCCI and was paid the same amount (INR 2.5 crore) as the rest of India’s coaching staff to ensure fair compensation for all.

According to a recent report published by Dainik Jagran, India captain Rohit Sharma was the first to take the initiative of offering to forego his bonus money so that all support staff were adequately rewarded.

In response, BCCI revised its plan, allocating INR 2 crore each to all coaching staff to ensure a fairer distribution of prize money.
