In the latest ICC Test rankings update, several England players have made significant gains, with Harry Brook moving up to a career-best third spot among batters.
Harry Brook moves up to third spot
Following his second-innings century in the Trent Bridge Test against the West Indies, England batter Harry Brook has jumped up to No.3 in the ICC Test batting rankings, the highest he has ever reached in his short Test career of 14 matches so far.
In the ongoing series, Brook is the third-highest run-scorer with 195 runs from three innings at an average of 65. He has leapfrogged Babar Azam, Daryl Mitchell, Steve Smith, and Rohit Sharma in his move up from seventh to third.
Joe Root inches away from top spot
Root also scored a second-innings hundred in the Trent Bridge Test, which has brought him closer to Kane Williamson who sits at the top of the rankings. Root is now only seven rating points away from the former New Zealand captain, and can potentially reach the top spot if he comes up with another strong performance in the third Test, which starts on Friday (July 26).
Other England and West Indies batters rise in the rankings
Ollie Pope has jumped eight places to 21st thanks to his first-innings hundred at Trent Bridge, while Ben Duckett has risen six spots to 16th after his twin seventies.
Among the West Indies batters, Kraigg Brathwaite has moved up two spots to 40th, Joshua da Silva is up seven places to 61st and Kavem Hodge has gained 21 spots after his maiden Test hundred to reach 75th in the Test batters' rankings.
Bashir and Woakes lead the bowlers' jump
Chris Woakes took six wickets at Trent Bridge, which has seen him move into the 20th spot, while Shoaib Bashir's five-for has seen him move up by 18 spots to reach 53rd.
🗣️ "You see how bloody difficult he can be to play because of his height, pace, bounce."@markbutcher72 was full of praise for Shoaib Bashir after his fourth innings five-wicket haul against West Indies at Trent Bridge ✨
