Head had an outstanding outing on the second day of the first Test between Australia and West Indies at the Adelaide Oval. Coming in to bat at No. 5 with the score reading 67-3, Head played a typically counter-attacking innings to score his seventh Test ton.
He held the Australian middle order together as no other batter crossed 50. He was dismissed for 119 off 134 balls by Alzarri Joseph as Australia finished their first innings at 283.
Head wasn’t done pulling off moments of individual brilliance though. As the West Indies came out to bat in the second innings, Head was in the thick of action early in the field.
Josh Hazlewood ran in to bowl the second ball of the fourth over to the West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite. A length ball on middle stump was defended by Brathwaite off the inside half of his bat. Head, standing at short leg, reacted quickly to move slightly towards his left and take a two-handed catch from an extremely close range. He set off in celebration and was joined by his teammates.
West Indies collapsed as they lost their first four wickets inside the first ten overs, all belonging to Hazlewood. They finished the day at 73-6, still trailing by 22 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
