Watch: Australia debutant Xavier Bartlett announced his arrival in international cricket with a stunning delivery to dismiss West Indies opener Justin Greaves in the first Australia West Indies ODI in Melbourne.
Bartlett made his debut alongside Lance Morris in a new-look pace attack for Australia, who won the toss and opted to bowl. Morris and Bartlett opened a bowling attack that had Sean Abbott as the third seamer.
Bowling the second over, Bartlett struck with just his third ball in international cricket – pitched up to the stumps and angling in, the ball straightened and swung away, taking the top of off stump. With no feet movement, Greaves couldn’t counter the movement, and ended up losing his wicket.
Bartlett finished with figures of 9-1-17-4, the best figures by an Australia bowler on debut after current national selector Tony Dodemaide’s five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka in 1988.
He also dismissed the other opener, Alick Athanaze, along with skipper Shai Hope and Gudakesh Motie, as the West Indies were bundled out for 231 in the 49th over.
