AUS vs WI: Team news for Australia and West Indies
On the back of their 3-0 whitewash against Pakistan, Pat Cummins will lead Australia into the final Test assignment of their home summer. The build-up to the series has been dominated by selection questions for the hosts in the aftermath of David Warner’s Test retirement following the final match of the series against Pakistan. Steve Smith will move up to open for the first time in his Test career, while Cameron Green also comes back into their side, batting at No.4 as the second all-rounder alongside Mitchell Marsh.
Australia have named a 13-man squad with Scott Boland and Matt Renshaw already confirmed as the two players to miss out on the starting XI for the opening match in Adelaide. The second and final match of the series, a pink-ball Test match, will take place at The Gabba, starting on January 25.
The West Indies have been unable to field a first-choice squad for the series. They will be without Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers, both of whom opted out of the tour to fulfil franchise commitments. Their 15-player squad includes seven potential debutants and newly appointed vice-captain Alzarri Joseph.
West Indies have not won a Test match in Australia since 1997, having lost 14 of their 16 matches in that time. They last toured Australia in 2022, where they lost the second Test of the series by 419 runs.
