The hosts named a 14-player squad captained by Mitchell Marsh in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins, who will sit out alongside other first-choice players like Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc.

The series will also see the return of recently retired Test and ODI batter David Warner, as well as all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood. Batters Matt Short, Tim David, Matthew Wade and bowlers Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott will have an opportunity to prove their mettle before the T20I World Cup in June.

Ahead of the series, Australia have released explosive batter Travis Head from the squad to keep him fresh for the upcoming T20 and Test tour of New Zealand, which will begin on February 21.

For the West Indies, Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers have been included in the T20I squad led by Rovman Powell after making themselves unavailable for the Test tour due to their commitment to franchise tournaments. Both Holder and Mayers were not part of the ODI series which preceded the T20Is, while Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford were granted permission to participate in ILT20 and are set to return in this series.

Like in the ODI series, Shimron Hetmyer has been left out owing to his poor form against England late last year, which resulted in him being dropped midway through the series.
