Watch: Scott Boland continued where he left off last Australia home summer by sensationally claiming a triple wicket maiden with the first over he bowled in the West Indies second innings at Adelaide.
Playing his first Test since his breakthrough in international cricket during last winter’s Ashes series, Boland created a similarly devastating impact claiming the first three West Indies wickets in the space of six balls with Kraigg Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks and Jermaine Blackwood the men to fall.
Boland left an unforgettable mark on last year’s Ashes after coming into the side ahead of the third Test at Melbourne. The then 32-year-old seamer memorably took 6-7 in the second England innings as the tourists collapsed to 68 all out to give the game and the series to Australia. Boland finished last winter’s Ashes with 18 wickets at 9.55 but did not retain his place in the XI for the tour of Pakistan in early 2022 as the first choice pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc were all back and fully fit.
Boland was part of the touring party for both the tours of Pakistan and Sri Lanka without playing game. Boland finally got the chance to play his fourth Test for Australia for the second game of the West Indies series after Cummins and Hazlewood were both ruled out of the Test through injury. His triple wicket maiden meant that after the third day’s play Boland averages exactly 10 with the ball in Test cricket and remarkably, just 4.26 in the second innings.
