Karun Nair four hundreds

India batter Karun Nair continued his rich vein of form, scoring a fourth consecutive ton in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, guiding his team to the semi-final and etching his name in record books in the process.

Playing in the quarter-final of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Rajasthan, captain Karun Nair anchored Vidarbha's chase of 292 with an attacking 122 off 82 balls from No.3 in a knock that included 13 fours and five sixes. As a result, Vidarbha ended up winning the game by nine wickets and with 39 balls remaining to advance to the semis.

For Nair, it was his fourth century in as many games in the tournament, having already scored tons against UP (112), Tamil Nadu (111*), and Chandigarh (163*). Adding up, his numbers in his last four List A games read: 508 runs at an average of 508 and a strike rate of 129.26.

In fact, his last two scores before the century against Chandigarh were 44* and 112*, taking his tally of hundreds this season to five, the joint most in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy along with Tamil Nadu's Narayan Jagadeesan.

What's the record for the most consecutive List A hundreds?

With his century today, Nair has joined an elite list of batters with centuries in four or more consecutive List A matches. He became the third Indian to achieve this feat after Jagadeesan and Devdutt Padikkal. Overall, he became the fifth player to score four or more consecutive List A tons, with the two non-Indians being Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara and Alviro Petersen of South Africa.

The world record belongs to N Jagadeesan, who had gone on to score five consecutive tons in the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nair, Padikkal, Sangakkara, and Petersen have four each.

Among them, Sangakkara is the only one whose four tons came in international cricket. No one else has scored more than three consecutive centuries in ODIs.
