The Hundred 2024 captains

Birmingham Phoenix

Men's captain: Moeen Ali

Local boy and England all-rounder Moeen Ali will continue as Birmingham Phoenix's captain for the 2024 campaign. He has been in charge since 2021, but presided over a poor season last year as the Phoenix won just two of their eight matches, finishing sixth on the table. Moeen's own form was decent, if unspectacular with 88 runs and three wickets in six matches.

Women's captain: Ellyse Perry

After finishing rock-bottom under Eve Jones last season, the Phoenix have opted to appoint Australian superstar Ellyse Perry as captain this season. Perry won the Women's Premier League with RCB this year (not as captain), and will be hoping to repeat the feat in Birmingham.

London Spirit

Men's captain: Dan Lawrence

The London Spirit have made no formal announcement about a change in their captaincy, so it is expected that Dan Lawrence will continue as skipper. Like the Phoenix, the Spirit also won just two matches last season, and will be looking for a turnaround. Lawrence himself was in fine form with the bat though, scoring 151 runs at a strike rate of 164.

Women's captain: Heather Knight

Like the men's team, no announcement of a captaincy change means Heather Knight is likely to continue in charge of the side. A sixth-place finish last year was not good enough, and Knight herself will want to improve on what was a middling campaign with the bat.

Manchester Originals

Men's captain: Jos Buttler

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler will remain in charge of the Manchester Originals this year. Buttler led from the front with 391 runs, as the Originals made the 2023 final but fell short for the second year in a row, this time against the Oval Invincibles. He will want to take them one step further this time around.

Women's captain: Sophie Ecclestone

Spinner Sophie Ecclestone has been doing the job with the ball for England, but here she needs to galvanise an outfit which finished second from bottom last season. Another poor campaign could mean the Originals start looking for other options to lead the franchise.

Northern Superchargers

Men's captain: Harry Brook

Northern Superchargers will be boosted by the availability of Ben Stokes for four matches this season, but he will be playing under the captaincy of rising star Harry Brook. Brook is fresh off a Test hundred against West Indies at Trent Bridge and could be the difference-maker for last year's bottom-placed side.

Women's captain: Hollie Armitage

Hollie Armitage led the Superchargers to their first-ever final last season and despite a loss in the summit clash, the campaign was a step forward for the franchise. A repeat performance, but this time ending with a trophy in hand, will be the goal.

Oval Invincibles

Men's captain: Sam Billings

Having won the title last year, Sam Billings was in no danger of losing his place as skipper of the Oval Invincibles. If Billings can lead them to another trophy, the Invincibles men's team will match the tally of their women's team.

Women's captain: Lauren Winfield-Hill

Lauren Winfield-Hill will take over the Invincibles from Dane van Niekerk, who led the side to two titles in 2021 and 2022. The team endured a difficult 2023, finishing fifth, but re-establishing their brief dominance over the league will be priority number one.

Southern Brave

Men's captain: James Vince

James Vince was one of the Southern Brave's key batters last year, cracking 191 runs in eight matches including a quickfire fifty in the Eliminator against the Originals. His team failed to qualify for the final but put in an impressive showing regardless.

Women's captain: Georgia Adams

Off-spinner Georgia Adams finished as the competition's leading wicket-taker last season, as Anya Shrubsole led the Brave to a third consecutive final, and first-ever title. Those are huge shoes to fill, but if her game is anything to go by, Adams will be up for the challenge.

Trent Rockets

Men's captain: Lewis Gregory

Trent Rockets were just one win away from making last year's playoffs and will be looking to go that bit further this time around. Under experienced all-rounder Lewis Gregory, the 2022 champions will fancy their chances of doing so.

Women's captain: Nat Sciver-Brunt

Nat Sciver-Brunt remains in charge of the Trent Rockets for the 2024 season. She was in blistering form with the bat last year, smashing 216 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 160. Repeat the feat and with a little bit of help, the Rockets could well improve on last year's fourth-place finish.

Welsh Fire

Men's captain: Tom Abell

Welsh Fire were another side that barely missed out on a playoff spot but were well-marshalled by batter Tom Abell. He is likely to continue as skipper, with no announcement of a change yet.

Women's captain: Tammy Beaumont

With no announcement of a captaincy change, batter Tammy Beaumont should continue to lead the Welsh Fire in 2024. They were eliminated in the playoffs last season, but Beaumont finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the league, with 290 in eight matches. One Step Better will be the motto this time around.
