Watch: Kieron Pollard launched a brutal attack on Rashid Khan in The Hundred today (August 10), hitting the leg-spinner for five consecutive sixes. Rashid has never conceded as many in a T20 over.
The attack came towards the back-end of Southern Brave's chase at the Utilita Bowl, when they needed 49 off 20 balls having been set 127 to win. Pollard had been biding his time, and was on six off 14 balls at that point.
Fellow West Indies player Akeal Hosein was out off the 80th ball of the innings to a ball from Sam Cook, with Rashid coming onto bowl the next over. Given a ball on middle stump first up, Pollard backed away and launched it over cow corner straight into the stands. He followed up with another maximum over long off for an even bigger six.
Rashid bowled another straight ball for his third, but was met with same result, and could only watch the ball sailing over his head for another six. Changing his line and bowling slightly wider outside off stump for his fourth delivery of the set, Pollard went big again. He backed away and gave himself room to hit into the off-side, sending the ball high over midwicket.
Gearing up for the last ball and looking for the full set of five sixes from five balls off Rashid, Pollard was faced with a slower ball floated full outside off in his arc, and dispatched it over long off.
The onslaught of sixes completely changed the equation for Southern Brave, who now only needed 19 off the last 15 balls of the innings. Pollard hit two fours in the next set before he was run out by Calvin Harrison. With Chris Jordan into bat, he hit a four off the penultimate ball of the innings to secure the win.
