Watch: Tymal Mills celebrated his 31st birthday with a hat-trick at the 2023 edition of the Men’s Hundred, in Cardiff.
Craig Overton (2-19) and George Garton (3-8) made early inroads after the Welsh Fire innings after Southern Brave captain Leus du Plooy opted to bowl.
From 16-3, the hosts pushed the score to 34 before Tymal Mills claimed his first wicket, of Glenn Phillips, caught-behind.
Barring Stephen Eskinazi, no Fire batter reached 20 as they lost their way, and reached 87-7 with three balls left in the innings. Mills ran in to bowl to Ben Green, on 10. Mills took the pace off, and Green hit the 69mph ball straight to Rehan Ahmed at point.
Mills greeted Haris Rauf with an overpitched ball outside off stump at a similar pace. Rauf went with his shot too soon, and the ball ballooned to du Plooy at cover.
As No.11 David Payne set himself up for the scoop, Mills bowled another slower ball on a similar line. The right-handed Payne had not moved across enough, and found the ball to his right: the reverse scoop went to Finn Allen at short third.
Mills (4-13) became the second cricketer to complete a hat-trick in the Men’s Hundred, after Imran Tahir, while Alana King and Shabnim Ismail have done it in the Women’s edition.
The Fire were bowled out for 87. After Allen made a 22-ball 31, Devon Conway (35 not out in 25 balls) and du Plooy (17 not out in 12) saw the Brave home with nine wickets and 61 balls in hand.
