Watch: Shaheen Afridi dismissed his Pakistan teammate Shadab Khan for two, a few hours after the all-rounder said that he wanted to “whack them [his bowling] for sixes” during the 2023 Hundred clash between Welsh Fire and Birmingham Phoenix.
Shadab, playing for the Phoenix, had his plans sorted when asked how he would take on the Pakistan fast bowling duo of Haris Rauf and Shaheen, who represent the Welsh Fire, when the two teams played on Thursday (August 10). Ahead of the game, he revealed his intentions and said: “I just want to whack them for sixes, bro.”
However, the night did not go as he wanted, getting dismissed by Shaheen on the fifth ball that he faced. Shadab looked to go big against a full toss but went too hard for his shot and only ended up miscuing the top edge back to the bowler. Shaheen, who had his eyes on the ball, ended up crashing into the stumps at the non-striker’s end but firmly held on.
Interestingly, Shadab could also have been dismissed by Rauf on his very first ball when he poked an off-cutter, but the wicketkeeper failed to get a glove to it.
Shadab, who was also certain his team would defeat Welsh Fire, was proven wrong once again as his team failed to defend 112.
