This year’s competition will run from August 1 to the final at Lord’s on August 27. Eight team compete in both the men’s and women’s competitions, and each represent a different regional hub in England. The teams competing in both competitions are: Welsh Fire, Trent Rockets, Birmingham Phoenix, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave and London Spirit.
Trent Rockets are the reigning champions in the men’s competition, having won the trophy for the first time last year. In the women’s competition, Oval Invincibles are double-champions and the only team ever to have won the women’s trophy. The South London based side once again got the better of Southern Brave in the grand final.
The format for this season is unchanged. Each team will play each other once in a round-robin format, with one extra match against their nearest regional rival. There will then be an Eliminator match between the second and third placed sides from the group stage, with the top placed teams going straight through to the final. The winners of the Eliminators will qualify for the final.
Both Eliminators will be played on August 26 at the Kia Oval. The final is set to be North of the river at Lord’s on the following day. As ever, every match in the competition will be a double-header, with the women’s match played immediately before the men’s. The format has been the stand-out success of the Hundred, and enlarged the audience for women’s cricket in England.
