Watch: Kolkata Knight Riders wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson affected a lightning-fast stumping in the IPL 2022 opener against Chennai Super Kings, which earned him high praise from all quarters.

The last ball of the eight over of the CSK innings, which was eventually called a wide, saw the demise of Robin Uthappa, who walked back to the dressing room stumped for a 21-ball 28. The Varun Chakravarthy delivery was sent down the leg side, and the batter strode forward in his attempt to strike the ball. After Uthappa missed the delivery, the KKR keeper took no time in moving to his left to collect the ball and then whip off the bails to complete the stumping.

His effortless keeping was praised by Sachin Tendulkar, who likened Jackson’s agility and speed to MS Dhoni.

Danny Morrison, on commentary, also lavished praise on the 35-year-old, saying: “He’s very Dhoni-like in terms of electric pace in collecting the ball.”

Jackson, 35, was playing just his fifth IPL match and his first in five years. His last appearance in the tournament was in 2017, also representing KKR.

Chennai, who were reduced to 49-3 after the dismissal of Uthappa, collapsed to 61-5 in 10.5 overs but were guided by their former skipper MS Dhoni, who made 50* in 38 to post 131-5 on the board. KKR later won the game by six wickets.
