The direct hit left Krishna and Boult’s other teammates chuckling, although captain Sanju Samson remained stony-faced in the aftermath.
The amusing incident came in the third over of KKR’s attempted chase of 153 to win. Boult bowled a full delivery to Baba Indrajith, who pushed the ball to Krishna at mid-on. The batting pair scampered a single, with Krishna aiming a throw at the striker’s end, only to strike his opening bowling partner flush on the leg, with the New Zealand international having run across in an attempt to intercept the ball.
Boult attempted to leap out the way, but that only made the incident more dramatic, with the projectile taking the left-armer’s legs away from under him before he crashed back to the turf. Boult was clearly uninjured, allowing him and his teammates to revel in the unexpected comedy, even as a sheepish but smiling Krishna apologised.
