After five overs, Chennai Super Kings had navigated their way to 49-1, despite losing Ruturaj Gaikwad early. Much of that was down to Moeen, who had creamed two fours and a six in the fourth over off Ravichandran Ashwin.

The all-rounder raised the level another notch when Boult came on to bowl the next over. The first ball disappeared over the deep square leg fence. On the second and third balls of the over, Moeen brought his wrists into play and delightfully whipped the ball to the fence. He then showcased his entire repertoire of strokes, slashing a boundary over short third man, cracking a four past backward point and crunching a cover drive past extra cover.

During that over, Moeen also brought up his first half-century of IPL 2022. He also notched up the second-fastest fifty of the tournament, with thousands of CSK fans at the Brabourne Stadium gushing about the all-rounder’s effortless stroke-play. He was eventually dismissed for 93, having contributed 62 percent of Chennai Super Kings’ runs. The rest of his teammates managed just 52 runs off 63 balls between them.
