Ferguson, who has picked up 12 wickets at an average of 35.08, was not part of his team’s XI in Qualifier 1, but returned in the summit clash, replacing Alzarri Joseph. Known for his fiery speeds, Ferguson, in his first over itself, sent down a stunning 157.3kmph delivery in the last ball.
The first four balls of the fifth over of the innings were quick and sharp, varying between speeds 146.7kph to 151.3kph, before Ferguson slowed his pace to send down a 127.5kph delivery. The last ball was a lovely yorker that surprised Buttler: it was bowled outside the off-stump, which Buttler unsuccessfully tried to push away. The ball eventually landed in the gloves of keeper Wriddhiman Saha.
Umran Malik earlier held the record of bowling the fastest ball of the season, when he bowled 157kmph against Delhi Capitals.
