The colossal hit came on the 3rd ball of the 12th over. Prior to that, Malik had accounted for Jitesh Sharma and was constantly producing deliveries in excess of 90mph. Livingstone, though, teed off, the ball disappearing as quickly as it arrived.

As Umran bowled a back of a length delivery, the Englishman sat back in his crease and whacked the ball over the deep square leg fence. The ball flew over the fielder’s head and smashed the Tata IPL 2022 board stationed on the top tier. Harsha Bhogle, who was on commentary at the time, couldn’t contain his excitement, quipping that the ball had gone into orbit.

Livingstone’s belligerent 60-run knock came off 33 balls, but a late collapse meant Punjab Kings only managed 151 in 20 overs. Their innings had gotten off to a shaky start, with Shikhar Dhawan departing early. Jonny Bairstow, too, couldn’t get going. But with Livingstone firing on all cylinders, PBKS looked likely to rack up 180, before Malik bowled a triple-wicket maiden in the final over to cap off another twist.
