Kohli is experiencing the worst IPL season of his career, averaging 19.64 from 12 matches and with a strike rate of just 111.34, prompting some to wonder whether the former India captain should take a break from the sport.

This was the third golden duck of Kohli’s campaign, and his second against Sunrisers this season alone. Before this year, Kohli had been dismissed for a golden duck on just three occasions in 199 IPL innings.

In an attempt to find some form, Kohli has moved up the order in this IPL from number three to opening. Against the Sunrisers, he faced the first ball of the match from spinner Jagadeesha Suchith. The ball was an innocuous delivery that was sliding down the leg-side, that Kohli managed to chip to Kane Williamson at midwicket.

Those in the commentary booth were at a loss for words with Harsha Bhogle exclaiming: “No, that has not happened, that has not happened Virat Kohli.”

Earlier this season, Kohli fell for consecutive golden ducks before recovering in the last two games with scores of 58 and 30. However, his strike-rate in both innings was very low with his 58 taking 53 balls, and his 30 coming at less than a run a ball, as he faced 33 deliveries.
