Led by Mayank Agarwal, Punjab Kings won the toss and inserted Delhi Capitals in to bat. In Prithvi Shaw’s absence, a lot was riding on Warner, considering the rich vein of form he has been in IPL 2022. Mayank, however, decided to use a spinner upfront, probably to curb Warner’s brisk scoring against fast bowling. The Australian fell into the trap as he sliced a length delivery straight to the fielder at backward point.

Prior to the first ball, Warner was seen asking his partner Sarfaraz to start at the non-striker’s end, despite the latter having taken guard. The Punjab Kings also had to switch over their field owing to Warner’s last-minute change of heart. As it turned out, it only hastened the Australian’s departure, with the Delhi Capitals getting off to the worst possible start.
