It wasn’t just the volume of wickets that caught the eye, but also the identity of his victims and the nature of the dismissals. He accounted for former South Africa and India captains Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli – the latter for a golden duck, Kohli’s second in as many games – as well as youngster Anuj Rawat.

The ball to dismiss du Plessis was a beauty, swinging in late to uproot the South African’s off stump. Both Kohli and Rawat were out caught at second slip by Jansen’s compatriot Aiden Markram.

Jansen, 21, was a surprise pick ahead of the 2021 IPL for Mumbai Indians but has since established himself as one of the most exciting young players on the planet. He played a pivotal role with the ball in South Africa’s memorable Test series victory over India at the turn of the year before getting picked up by Sunrisers at the 2022 IPL auction.
