When Chahal came on to bowl the 17th over, KKR needed 40 runs from four overs and looked in control, with Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer at the crease. Venkatesh danced down the track off the first ball of the over in an attempt to hoick Chahal over mid wicket. He failed to pick the googly, though, and played all over it with Sanju Samson whipping off the bails.

A few balls later, Shreyas had an ugly heave across the line and was adjudged lbw. Off the fifth ball of the over, Chahal enticed Shivam Mavi into a slog, one that was gobbled up by Riyan Parag at long-on. To cap off his hat-trick, the leg-spinner bamboozled Pat Cummins with a beautifully flighted delivery that pitched outside off and turned away, with the Australian only being able to feather it through to the keeper.

The over proved to be a turning point, considering KKR lost almost two well-set batters and a capable all-rounder in Cummins. Umesh Yadav hit a few boundaries and tried his best but the 2021 finalists fell agonizingly short by seven runs.
