Watch: Virat Kohli went fishing after a ball outside the off-stump line during an IPL 2022 game against KKR to continue his extended underwhelming run with the bat.
Kohli, who has been without an international hundred since November 2019, had an uninspiring outing for RCB in IPL 2021, averaging 28.92 with a strike rate of 119.46. Even for India, Kohli’s struggled for big runs, with his Test average dropping below 50 for the first time since 2017. His ODI average in 2021 read 43, the lowest in a calendar year since 2015. Kohli’s biggest issue is thought to be his tendency to go after the deliveries outside the off-stump.
He was out in a similar fashion in the game against KKR on Wednesday, bringing the opponents back into the game. Though Kohli started off in fine fashion, hitting his former RCB teammate Umesh Yadav for back-to-back fours, the quick bounced right back. The first ball of the third over was a short ball outside off, which shaped away, and Kohli had a go, but the faint nick only carried to the keeper Sheldon Jackson. Kohli was dismissed for a seven-ball 12, as Umesh picked up his second wicket in as many overs.
After KKR could pile only 128 runs in their first innings, the bowlers bounced back strongly, reducing RCB to 17-3.
