The dismissal occurred off the fourth ball of the sixth over of Delhi’s innings. The Capitals had already lost David Warner and Mitchell Marsh inside the first four overs. With Shaw batting on 24 and Rishabh Pant present at the other end, though, the Capitals still harboured hopes of maximising the powerplay. Bumrah, though, had other ideas: he bowled a sharp bouncer that was angled into the batter’s body. Shaw tried to get out of the way but the slant meant that he wasn’t able to do so. The ball eventually thudded into his glove and lobbed towards Kishan, who took a couple of steps forward before completing a fine diving catch.
The wicket left Delhi Capitals reeling at 31-3 inside the powerplay in a must-win clash. Thankfully for them, Pant and Rovman Powell joined forces later to accord their innings some sort of stability and respectability. As far as their IPL play-off hopes are concerned, Delhi Capitals need to win the game against Mumbai Indians to ensure that they make the cut.
