The sides were allowed to retain a number of players before the IPL 2022 mega-auction. Some of the star players to be retained were Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rohit Sharma for Mumbai Indians, and MS Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings.

The teams will be backed by strong support staff featuring several former players, analysts, and physiotherapists.
