Despite having possessed some of the finest players in the history of the IPL, RCB have never won the league. They have ended up as runner-ups on three occasions in the league.

The Bengaluru-based franchise had retained Mohammad Siraj, Virat Kohli, and Glenn Maxwell ahead of the mega auction. There were a number of new names which were added to the side during the auction, including Faf du Plessis, Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror.

Last year, midway through IPL 2021 then RCB captain Kohli announced his decision to quit captaincy. However, he added that he would continue as an RCB player till his last IPL game. Recently, former South Africa skipper du Plessis was named as the new leader of RCB.

It was also last year, that their star player AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of the game.
