Watch: RCB’s Virat Kohli unleashed a delectable leg-side six off Mitchell Starc during his expensive opening spell for KKR in their IPL 2024 match in Bengaluru.
Kohli’s 93rd fifty powered RCB to 182-5, the opener carrying his bat through the innings, and ending on an unbeaten 83 off 59.
His onslaught began with a stunning leg-side six off Starc, the most expensive player in this year’s auction. The second ball of the third over was a cutter directed towards him: Kohli used his wrists to casually power it over the square leg fence for a six, bringing the Bengaluru crowd to its feet.
Kohli collected a four off the next ball, but it wasn’t as convincing, a thick edge flying past the wicketkeeper to the third-man fence. Starc conceded 17 runs off the over.
The two faced each other in the final over as well, with Kohli smashing another leg-side six off him, clubbing him over deep midwicket.
Starc, who had conceded 53 runs in his first match for KKR, ended with figures of 4-0-47-4.
New record for RCB
Kohli hit four sixes in all, taking his tally to 241 sixes, now the record for the most maximums by an RCB player. He went past AB de Villiers (238) and Chris Gayle (239).
