Royal Challengers Bengaluru were put into bat by Punjab Kings in a must-win game. Kohli, already the orange cap holder before the match, continued in his merry way scoring his sixth fifty-plus score of the season.
He started off with luck on his side. Ashutosh Sharma dropped a catch off him while he was yet to open his account, while Rilee Rossouw gave him a second reprieve a couple of overs later.
Virat Kohli was dropped on 0 by Ashutosh Sharma, and later on 10 by Rilee Rossouw, both off Vidwath Kaverappa's bowling.

Kohli made the most of both chances as, after a sightly sluggish start which saw him score ten off his first ten balls, he accelerated. The next ten balls saw him hit two fours and two sixes as he raced to 36 off 20 before eventually reaching his fifty off 32 balls in the 13th over.
En route to his fifty, Kohli hit a stunning one-handed six off Kaverappa. On the first ball of the seventh over, he advanced down the track and casually extended his arms playing a lofted off-drive that saw the ball sail over the fence for a 78 metre six. As the ball made contact with the bat, Kohli’s bottom hand came off as he guided the ball in the desired direction with his top hand.
