Chasing 174 for victory, Mumbai Indians started terribly, losing their top three batters within the first 25 balls of the innings. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Naman Dhir, all fell for single digit scores as the Wankhede surface and the conditions on offer helped seam and swing bowling.
Yadav came out at No.4 and was joined by Tilak Varma at No.5 shortly after. MI still needed 143 more in 15.5 overs for victory. As it turned out, they didn’t lose a single more wicket as the pair of Yadav and Varma finished off the chase with 16 balls remaining. Of the 143 runs, Yadav scored 102 off 51 and Varma was not out on 37 off 32.

Towards the end of the run-chase, Yadav was in a race against the runs remaining to reach his hundred. At the end of 16 overs, MI needed another 25 for victory, while Yadav needed 19 to reach his hundred.
The 17th over was bowled by Pat Cummins. Yadav hit the last three balls of the over for two fours and a six to get to 96. With MI needing another seven runs, Varma quietly took a single off the first ball of the 18th over, bowed by T Natarajan, before Yadav drove a low full toss over wide long-off for a six that both sealed the game and got him his second IPL century.
