Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bat first in their first home game of IPL 2024. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave them a blistering start, adding 93 for the first wicket before Matheesha Pathirana took a blinder of a catch to dismiss the southpaw.
Shaw was dismissed soon after. Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant then threatened to take the game away from CSK as they stitched a quickfire 31-run third-wicket partnership before Pathirana took charge of proceedings once again.
Running in to bowl the 16th over, Marsh pulled Pathirana for a cracking boundary between square leg and fine leg on the third ball, forcing Pathirana to go to his trusted weapon, the yorker.

Pathirana nailed the yorker as Marsh was late in binging his bat down in time. The stumps lit up, signalling the fall of Delhi’s third wicket. Tristan Stubbs walked out at No.5 and was treated to a similar fate as another picture-perfect yorker beat his defences and crashed into his off-stump, arresting all the momentum that DC’s innings had gathered till then.
I don’t jump out of my seat very often during commentary; but those two Yorkers by Matheesha Pathirana to Marsh and Stubbs were of the highest and most spectacular class.

Pant then took the DC score to 191-5, reaching his first half-century since comeback in the process. He was also dismissed off the bowling of Pathirana, who finished with figures of 3-31 from four overs.
