Mumbai Indians (MI) won the toss and elected to bowl first in their opening fixture of IPL 2024 against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. They handed a debut to 24-year-old Naman Dhir from Punjab, taking the place of Suryakumar Yadav in the XI, who is not yet available due to injury.

Hardik Pandya took the new ball for MI, along with England’s Luke Wood. Bumrah came on to bowl in the fourth over. His first three balls were dots, followed by a boundary over the off-side by Saha.

Another dot followed before an inch-perfect, searing yorker went through his defences and shattered his stumps, drawing immediate applause from Lasith Malinga in the MI dugout.

Bumrah didn’t play the IPL last year due to injury, making this his first wicket in the tournament since that of Rovman Powell in MI’s last game of IPL 2022.
