Mitchell was trying to master the pull in a warm-up session ahead of Chennai’s clash against Punjab on Sunday (May 5). In the process, he hit a full-blooded shot towards the stands, and directly at a spectator recording him from the stands. The accidental hit floored the fan and damaged his phone.
The New Zealand all-rounder seemingly apologised by raising his hand. Later, the fan claimed he had been gifted Gray-Nicolls batting gloves as an apparent gesture of apology.
In the match, Mitchell scored a 19-ball 30, including two fours and six, playing an important hand in Chennai reaching 167. Ravindra Jadeja top scored with 43 off 26 before taking 3-20 to restrict the hosts to 139-9.
