The crucial game between fourth-placed LSG and table-toppers RR began on a note of confusion as the Lucknow skipper Rahul walked up to presenter Ian Bishop to announce his decision of batting or bowling first despite losing the toss.

After Bishop introduced the two skippers, Rahul, the home skipper flipped the coin as is the tradition. Samson called ‘Heads’ and it was confirmed Rajasthan had won the toss after the camera lenses zoomed into the coin. However, Rahul assumed the toss fell in his favour and walked up to Bishop, for what is supposed to be the winning captain’s interview.

Upon seeing Rahul walk up instead of Samson, Bishop was left confused too and clarified with the match referee, who usually verifies which team wins the toss: “Is it correct? We’re just making sure here.”

When it was established the coin landing was indeed ‘Heads’, Rahul asked Samson: “What did you call?” suggesting he had not heard him before. Turns out, Rajasthan had indeed won the toss.

Samson elected to bowl first at the Ekana Stadium in the end, a decision that was validated with LSG reduced to 11-2 in two overs.
